Marble Maintenance

Daily Care

Marble is a natural material and responds well to simple, consistent care. For everyday maintenance, wipe your KIYOMA piece with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust and surface residue. Avoid abrasive cloths or sponges, as these can dull the surface over time.

Keep marble away from acidic substances such as citrus, vinegar, and certain cleaning products. Acids react with the calcium in marble and can cause etching, which are dull marks on the surface that are difficult to reverse. If a spill occurs, blot it immediately rather than wiping, to prevent it from spreading further into the stone.

For objects used as bowls or catch-alls, we recommend a quick wipe after each use to keep the surface clean and free from residue.

Ageing with Intention

Marble changes over time. Small marks, subtle shifts in tone, and a developing patina are not signs of damage. They are signs of a material that is being lived with. At KIYOMA, we consider this part of the object's character.

To slow surface wear on polished pieces, keep them out of direct sunlight for extended periods, as UV exposure can gradually affect the tone of certain stones. For added protection, a natural stone sealant can be applied once or twice a year. This does not change the appearance of the stone but adds a layer of resistance against moisture and light staining.

A KIYOMA object is not fragile. It is solid, heavy, and built to last. Treat it with basic care and it will remain part of your home for decades.
